From October 2007 to 1 July 2008, the PES ran an open consultation on its manifesto for the 2009 European elections. The consultation was a big success: more than 300,000 visitors, 500 posts, 100 videos. We did what no European party had ever done before. … More than 3,000 activists joined us during the process and we set up a big Facebook group.

A draft manifesto was drawn up on the basis of that consultation, and discussed within the PES and its party members. The PES manifesto was adopted at PES Council in Madrid, on 1 December 2008.
